Breakfast meeting and official launch of GOAWL (28)

Interview By The President of GAOWL to Bernama News

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) — An international organisation – the Global Association Of Women In Leadership (GAOWL) – was recently launched to create a support system and networking for women in leadership globally.

Its Founder-President Dr. Ama Boahemaa Dwomoh said that GAOWL, launched last month, is headquartered in Accra, Ghana, but has membership in other countries as well including Turkey, Switzerland, Zambia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Laos, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Kuwait, Tanzania, Turkmenistan, Egypt, Somalia, India, Algeria, Maldives, and Cambodia.

Dwomoh explained that GAOWL gathers outstanding women in leadership with the vision of creating a global database of women in exemplary leadership positions to create positive change globally.

She said women around the world faced many problems such as domestic violence, unequal access to education, child marriage, inadequate healthcare, gender bias, oppression, and human rights abuses, but many of them were not sure what to do to tackle these problems.

Dwomoh explained that women are powerful agents of change, and in this context, women in leadership are in a key position to influence government policies or to assist in getting funding or scholarships for women to further their studies.

“GAOWL brings together among others, top female managers, politicians, directors, diplomats, industry speakers, chief executive officers, academicians, experts, and global think tanks under one roof to share experiences, analyse prevailing challenges for female inclusivity, and share best practices and real-life experiences to better equip female leaders to make a positive impact in the society.

“We are looking at action on how to use our position to benefit other women…because women in leadership can make an impact and change the lives of other women,” she told Bernama in an interview here.

“In the long run GAOWL chapters can exchange experiences on the issues affecting women in their respective countries and how best to address these issues by women in leadership,” she said.

Dwomoh said as part of its activities, GAOWL provides professional development, advocacy, consultancy services, and training programmes as well as conducting seminars, forums, and study trips.

“GAOWL offers unique conference sponsorship opportunities for individuals and corporate entities that can help increase the visibility and exposure of their services and products. Among others, they will have access to a broad consumer base through an increase in publicity and purchase from members and observers,” she said.

“GAOWL promotes the prioritisation of women in national, regional, and international policies and hopes that with one voice, changes can be made to ensure an all-inclusive and safe environment for women to assume leadership roles and promote positive change across the globe,” she said.
